Today we will be discussing the difference between marijuana and hemp. Often times.. too often, hemp gets mislabeled as a psychoactive plant from misinformed people who confuse it with hemp’s misunderstood sister Mary Jane.
The hemp plant has low levels of THC and high levels of CBD. Hemp has THC content as low as 0.3%, which is far from psychoactive. No, you can not get high on hemp. Hemp produces more CBD than THC. In marijuana, both THC and CBD are released when smoked. CBD counteracts the psychoactive effects of the THC. Not only can you not get high on hemp, it would kill any buzz you had because of its genetic differences.
Hemp plants are are male, and don’t flower. Which mean they can continue to grow and will produce seeds for the mother plant. Marijuana plants (There are three species: Rudalis, sativa, indica) are generally female, and do flower. The buds the marijuana plant create are covered in crystals, trichomes, and have a high THC content that the hemp plant does not.
Though marijuana generares more THC than hemp plants, the ratio of CBD in marijuana plants can still be higher than the THC. These are called indica plants and are what indica strains come from. The higher CBD ratio causes the user more of a tired body high, as CBD works to level the playing fields with THC.
